Patrick Pye

Patrick PYE (b.1929) was born in Winchester and brought up in Dublin. In 1943 he began painting under the sculptor Oisin Kelly, and later studied at the National College of Art in Dublin. In 1957 he received a scholarship to attend the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Holland, where he began working with stained glass under Albert Troost. During the 1960s he worked on several commissions for stained glass in churches throughout Ireland. In the 1970s he commenced etching at the Graphic Studio Dublin, where he continues working in this medium. In 1981 he was elected to Aosdana and in 1991 to the RHA.
